HOW TO GO FROM ZERO TO 100,000
Zero to 100,000: It could be dollars, clicks, followers, or even a light meter reading. But it’s not. It’s a Moffett truck-mounted forklift manufacturing milestone, and it’s impressive.
How did they get here from there? It’s a story of nearly 80 years of innovative ideas and groundbreaking technologies and a story worth telling.
The seed of an idea
Moffett started making agricultural machinery in small-town Ireland in 1945. Load-handling challenges led to the invention of the world’s first cable-operated demountable load-handling system. It was a far cry from horse and cart and forever changed how local farms and agricultural businesses delivered their goods. In the early 70s, the world was in a construction boom, and Moffett heeded the call.
Number one takes off
As industries changed and grew, so did the need to significantly speed up and simplify materials handling. In 1986, Moffett solved that with the world’s first all-wheel-drive truck-mounted forklift.
Fast, easy, convenient, powerful and profitable, the compact, three-wheeled Moffett Mounty was a global game-changer. It fit on the back of virtually every truck and trailer, leaving valuable load room. It cut down on labour and time loss. One person could mount and dismount it on their truck in under a minute, making deliveries faster, easier and more cost-efficient. Businesses of all types could do more and deliver more. Atlas Polar recognized its value and potential for Canada and became its Canadian distributor in 1989.
Growing numbers
Technology rose to the forefront. Moffett embraced it, led it, and paid attention to its customers’ needs. Additionally, Moffett truck-mounted forklifts proved to be the perfect complement to HIAB truck cranes and Multilift truck-mounted hooklifts – an unbeatable equipment trio. The number of Moffetts rose exponentially.
Moffett Mounty became, simply, Moffett. Committing to a never-ending improvement policy, it continually evolved design, features, modifications and accessories to make deliveries faster, easier, safer, more productive and profitable for everyday use and specialized uses. Moffett introduced pantograph reach models with patented Lift Assist® arms, and four-way multidirectional and low-profile models. Wireless push-button mount and dismount systems. Unheard of capacities. Greater weight-to-load ratios. More accessible parts and simpler service. Hydraulic systems to make them faster, more efficient and easier to operate.
Zoom, zoom: 75,000 >90,000>
By 2022, Moffetts were everywhere. The 75,000th unit had rolled off the line at its recently completed, state-of-the-art ‘Centre for Excellence’ production facility in Dundalk, Ireland. By August 2023, that number was 90,000. Moffett sets the bar and keeps raising it higher. Now, all-electric Moffetts have taken Europe by storm, winning award after award and acing crash safety tests and we’re excited to have them on the move in Canada.
100,000 Moffetts and beyond
Moffett truck-mounted forklifts are the de facto delivery standard for a vast array of industries, including building supply, propane delivery, food and beverage, agriculture, farming, landscaping and more.
In July of this year, the milestone 100,000th Moffett made its mark. It’s out the door, on the water and on its way to one lucky Canadian customer. We’re already on our way with sales to help take those numbers to the next 100,000.
